Intro to Yoga

This course is designed to introduce new students to the physical practice of yoga. A smaller class size allows for more individual attention, detailed instructions, adjustments and questions. This 4 week absolute beginner workshop is recommended for those who are new to Yoga.

International Yoga Day

June 21 is the Summer Solstice in Toronto. As well, June 21 was declared as the International Day of Yoga by the United Nations General Assembly on December 11, 2014. The declaration came after the call for the adoption of 21 June as International Day of Yoga by Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi.

On Thurs June 21, come celebrate with us the gift that keeps on giving, Yoga. All classes scheduled that day will be free. See regular class times.

Yoga Meltdown 2018

Attention all yoga enthusiasts! Come to join us on July 15th, 2018 at Center Island for the 10th Annual Yoga Meltdown, Toronto’s largest, free outdoor spiritual yoga exhibition. With free outdoor yoga classes, mantra meditation sessions, yoga-inspired performances, vegan cooking demonstrations, a free vegetarian feast, and much more, the 10th Annual Yoga Meltdown celebrates yoga in a dynamic and uniquely holistic way. Yoga Meltdown team is excited to partner with Beach Yoga again. Register at to take part in this beautiful celebration of Yoga!

Meltdown is a part of the 45th Annual Festival of India, a weekend-long festival, celebrated on July 15th, 2018. The festival features an upbeat, colourful parade down Yonge Street (beginning at Bloor and continuing south to the lake) and weekend-long celebrations at Centre Island, expected to draw close to 40,000 people! The festival is free and open to everyone. Other festivities include a stunning Arts & Culture Showcase, dramas, a South Asian bazaar, Vedic exhibits, a children’s area, and much, much more!

BYC is going to be part of this and will be helping to promote and celebrate this spiritual festival. We are participating this year by being part of this celebration and David Gellineau will be teaching the following class:

Backbends – Mastering the Basics

Beautifully designed to provide support and wide range of movement, the spine has a unique feature, and that is the ability to sit, stand, and walk, with the head, neck and trunk in vertical alignment. Backbends are tremendous postures and one of the most exhilarating asanas to practice. They develop flexibility, strengthen, realign and increase the mobility and structural integrity of the entire spinal column. They align the pelvic region, stretch and strengthen the legs, boost energy levels while inspiring self-confidence, courage, and vitality. Backbends can also teach us to be more patient with ourselves by accepting our limitations and using them as a guide to move deeper by unlocking an inner awareness.


In this workshop, we will be practicing and incorporating fundamental alignment techniques and actions to incorporate into your back bending postures. Learn how to energetically and intuitively open restricted areas of the body to safely deepen these asanas.
