Actions, Awareness, Alignment: 10 Hour Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga Weekend

In a welcoming and inspiring environment, this weekend will be open to interaction, inquiry, fun and connection. Questions and answers will be encouraged and there will be an abundance of time to explore the more physical aspects of the practice.

This 10 Hour Weekend Includes the Following Curriculum:

Follow the Path of Vinyasa

Friday 5:00 to 7:00

The essential technique of breath and movement and how it applies to the internal principles of the Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga system will be explored.  Specific exercises will be practiced and explained opening a doorway to another level of awareness and understanding of the exact science of  the vinyasa system and a set of universal actions in postures and movements, and how they set the primary ground work for deepening your practice.

Practice, Discover, Challenge -An Intergrative Asana Practice

Saturday -12:30 to 2:00

Modeling an open approach to discovering what is most effective we will be exploring the dynamic sequence of the standing asanas.  When we learn how to challenge ourselves appropriately and intuitively in the postures we practice daily, we benefit and move deeper in our practice. We will stop to take the time to explore postures, their universal actions and look at how they prepare and provide us with a strong foundation for, seated, back bends and closing postures.

Map it Out Break it Down-Exploration of the Postures of the Intermediate Series

2:30 to 5:00

Nadi Shodhana is the traditional name for the Intermediate or Second Series of Ashtanga Yoga.  It refers to the results of the practice, the purification and strengthening of the nervous system and the energetic areas, which underlie the physical form. In this workshop the series will be introduced as well as their coordinating vinyasas, in a workshop style. This will give practitioners and teachers an opportunity to ask questions and look at key universal actions that develop the strength and alignment for postures, including unlocking the role of the  vinyasa system, and how it links postures within the series, and how these actions can be used for the same postures that are found in other Yoga traditions.

Setting Your Intention- Half Primary Series

Sunday-12:30 to 1:30

Practitioners  and teachers are guided through the traditional sequence of the Primary Series, from sun salutations through standing, seated postures up to Navasana to back bends and closing postures using the Vinyasa system. By practicing and setting our intention in his led class, a strong foundation will be initiated to start the ball rolling for the rest of the days dynamic workshop series.

Map it Out ,Break it Down-Exploration of the Postures of the Intermediate Series

2:00 to 5:30

This will be an continuation of Saturdays workshop where we left off,  with a focus on the energetic aspects, enjoyable back bends, the deep hip work and dynamic arm balances of the Intermediate Series.

Back Bends

Back bends are tremendous postures and one of the most exhilarating asanas to practice.  They develop flexibility, strengthen, realign and increase the mobility in the entire spinal column. They open the pelvic region, stretch and strengthen the legs, boost energy levels while inspiring self-confidence, courage and vitality.  Back bends can also teach us to be more patient with ourselves by accepting our limitations and use them as tools to move deeper by unlocking an inner intelligence. In this workshop we will learn fundamental alignment techniques to incorporate in to a variety of back bending postures and learn how to energetically and intuitively open restricted areas of the body to safely deepen these asanas.

Arm Balances

Arm balances strengthen the arms, core, legs, bring stability to the shoulder girdle , as well improve our sense of balance, self-confidence, and concentration.  When we learn to balance on our hands, our arms,  we begin to soar no only on our mats but also in our minds. In this workshop, we will look at arm balances of the Intermediate series and the key universal actions that makes the mastery of strength, stability and alignment accessible to everyone to discover the secret to balancing on their arms.
