Enjoy Your Journey: An Ashtanga Weekend

Follow the Path of Vinyasa
Friday 6:00 pm – 8:30 pm
Vinyasas are the synchronizing of breath with movement and are the essence of Ashtanga Yoga.  In this workshop the essential technique of breath and movement and how it applies to the internal principles of the Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga system will be explored.  Specific movements will be practiced and explained opening a doorway to a new level of awareness and understanding of actions and alignment, and the Vinyasa system in Ashtanga Yoga and how it can deepen your practice. This workshop will bring light to habits created unconsciously throughout your yoga practice and will provide movements and solutions to ensure the progression of the fluidity of vinyasas.

Back Bends
Saturday 3:30 pm – 5:30 pm
Backbends are tremendous postures and one of the most exhilarating asanas to practice.  They develop flexibility, strengthen and increase the range of motion of the spine, and bring greater freedom of movement to the entire body while inspiring self-confidence, courage, and vitality. They can also challenge us to accept our limitations and use them as a guide to move deeper by unlocking an inner intelligence. In this workshop, we will focus on the actions needed to safely move deeper in these asanas and add dimension intelligence to your backbends.

Introduction to Aruveyda – The Sister Science of Yoga

Known as the “sister science of yoga”, Ayurveda is the science of “life-knowledge”. A healing systemt that originated thousands of years ago in India, Ayurveda is based on the notion that good health depends on the balance between mind, body, and spirit. Considered a complementary health approach in the North America, Ayurveda focuses on restoring balance in the body through a personalized plan that can include massage, specialized diets, herbs, aromatherapy and physical activity.

Pitta, Vata or Khapa, whats your dosha? How to determine your dosha, as well as the theory of the five elements of Ayurveda and its impact of our daily lives and your Yoga practice will be introduce in this lecture. Ayurvedic principles, relevant to your practice both on and off the mat will be explained, further demonstrating how this ancient system, can enrich and sustain your physical Yoga practice. Walking Meditation Workshop

Walking meditation is a yogic practice to bring our attention to the mind and body together in motion. We take one step and are mindful of the in breaths and the out breaths. We are mindful of the present moment. We are solid and free has people and free from daily distractions. Our movement is pleasant and enjoyable. Our energy in the body becomes stronger and concentrated. Breathing in we are aware we are alive. Breathing out we are aware we are free and at home completely in our body.
Walking meditation is an opportunity to be aware of all the small muscles in our feet and the big muscles in our hips that help us move. It is a yoga practice for daily life combined with gatas (small poems) it focuses attention to help us recover from any illness or injury and assists circulation in the body pumping more oxygen to all our muscles helping us maintain our center, solidity, and freedom of movement. It connects and grounds us with each step we take. Mindful of the chakras. In our fast lives, we need time to bring ourselves home to moving in the present moment and enjoying the energy of being fully alive and awake.

Join Karen as she guides you in practice, learning how to meditate, meditation techniques, practice session, and discussion.
